چکیده

We study the phase diagram of the three-state Potts model on a triangular lattice with general interactions (ferro/antiferromagnetic) between nearest neighbor spins. When the interactions along two lattice-vector directions are antiferromagnetic and infinitely strong, this model becomes equivalent to a six-vertex model and exhibits a first-order (KDP) transition from an ordered phase into a critical phase. Comparing the excitations occurred by relaxing the restriction of infinite-strength interactions and those in the eight-vertex model, we analytically obtain the critical index for those excitations and demonstrate the existence of a critical phase for the case of finite antiferromagnetic interactions in two directions and ferromagnetic interactions in the other direction. When the interactions are antiferro-magnetic in all three directions, Monte Carlo simulations show that a first-order line emerges from the KDP point and separates completely an ordered phase and a disordered phase. Along the special line where all three antiferromagnetic interactions have the same strength, the cell-spin analysis reveals that the symmetry of the ground states is dual to the symmetry of the n = 3 ferromagnetic cubic model which is known to exhibit a first-order phase transition.

Multicritical Points of Potts Spin Glasses on the Triangular Lattice

We predict the locations of several multicritical points of the Potts spin glass model on the triangular lattice. In particular, continuous multicritical lines, which consist of multicritical points, are obtained for two types of two-state Potts (i.e., Ising) spin glasses with twoand three-body interactions on the triangular lattice. These results provide us with numerous examples to further ve...

Triangular Lattice Potts Models

In this paper we study the 3-state Potts model on the triangular lattice which has twoand three-site interactions. Using a Peierls argument we obtain a rigorous bound on the transition temperature, thereby disproving a conjecture on the location of its critical point. Low-temperature series are generated and analyzed for three particular choices of the coupling constants; a phase diagram is the...

Critical point of a trimgular Potts model with two - and three - site interactions ?

The q-state Potts model on the triangular lattice with nearest-neighbour interactions and three-site interactions in half of the triangular faces is considered. The exact duality relation is re-examined from the point of view of determining its critical point. Using the continuity and uniqueness arguments we determine the exact critical point in the ferromagnetic model. It is argued that a tran...

Three-state chiral Potts models on the triangular lattice: a Monte Carlo study

The q-state chiral Potts model can describe systems that exhibit rich phase diagrams (see, for instance, ref. [l]) and interesting physical properties like commensurate-incommensurate transitions [2]. The chiral Potts model has been extensively studied in the last few years from the point of view of exactly solvable models. Au-Yang et al. discovered integrable cases for the q-state chiral Potts...

Finite-size scaling corrections in two-dimensional Ising and Potts ferromagnets

Finite-size corrections to scaling of critical correlation lengths and free energies of Ising and three-state Potts ferromagnets are analysed by numerical methods, on strips of width N sites of square, triangular and honeycomb lattices. Strong evidence is given that the amplitudes of the ‘analytical’ correction terms, N−2, are identically zero for triangular and honeycomb Ising systems. For Pot...

Study of the Potts model on the honeycomb and triangular lattices: Low-temperature series and partition function zeros

We present and analyse low-temperature series and complex-temperature partition function zeros for the q-state Potts model with q = 4 on the honeycomb lattice and q = 3, 4 on the triangular lattice. A discussion is given on how the locations of the singularities obtained from the series analysis correlate with the complex-temperature phase boundary. Extending our earlier work, we include a simi...
